Asking God For Gas : Cole Calvin
"I had in fact and in all spiritual sincerity taken on the mission of returning him to his original state of child of the sun,-and we wandered nourished with the wine of the caverns and the hard tack of the highway, with me determined to find the location and recipe."

ALLGORITHIM Presents: "Asking God for Gas" - A Solo Online Exhibition by Cole Cavlin
This virtual showcase will be available from October 30 to November 27, 2024, inviting audiences from around the world to engage with Cavlin's 4-year showcase captured through the phantasmic landscape and faces of contemporary life in America.
In Asking God for Gas, Cole Cavlin's work begs to ask, What can we do to move the senses? His works combine oil paint, concrete, street-found objects, textile scraps, journal entries, and scrap metal to evoke the complex textures of downtown Los Angeles and New York City, where he has spent the past four years living and working in various art studios with the obsession to capture an intensified reality before unknown to himself.
In 2021, Cavlin expanded his creative range by launching the label cd1974, designing 1-of-1 cut and sewn garments for artists including Lenny Kravitz, Camila Cabello, Slash, and Dave Chappelle. In 2024, he directed 2 runway shows with seasonal collections available at Domicile Tokyo, Church Boutique in Los Angeles, and Retail Pharmacy in NYC, all handmade by Cavlin, viewing his garments as artwork. In April 2024, he premiered Dying in Nature, a Western film he co-wrote and directed, further evolving his vision.
Asking God for Gas captures Cole's unique use of found materials and oil paint to reconstruct life around him, imbuing each piece with the intensity of his lived experience. The public is invited to view the exhibition online through the ALLGORITHIM website, beginning October 30, 2024. Asking God for Gas will be accessible worldwide through November 27, 2024.
