Ethan Schlesinger (b. 2002) is a photographer whose work is rooted in the emotional landscape of the American Midwest. Raised on its rural fringe, in conditions of quiet isolation, he makes images concerned with displacement, impermanence, and the body — the tension between the desire for movement and the stagnancy that meets it. Familiarity is found only in flesh and in a heartbeat. The photographs sit between departure and return, between what was and what can no longer be recovered.
