Vincent Lantzy (b. 1998, Detroit, MI) is a Los Angeles–based artist whose practice operates at the intersection of fashion, fine art, and material experimentation. Initially recognized for his work in fashion, Lantzy founded Vincent Lantzy Studios, a brand centered on one-of-a-kind, hand-altered garments. His early artistic output involved painting directly onto repurposed clothing—leather jackets, suits, denim, and other textiles—transforming everyday materials into wearable artworks imbued with history, gesture, and reinvention.
These garments functioned as both object and image, collapsing distinctions between utility and expression. Through this process, Lantzy developed a visual language rooted in intuition, immediacy, and surface tension, where marks felt lived-in rather than decorative. His approach emphasized the physical trace of the hand, allowing wear, texture, and imperfection to become integral components of the work.
Over time, Lantzy’s creative inquiry expanded beyond the body and into the studio, prompting a shift toward canvas and works on paper. Now operating independently from his fashion brand, his studio practice is dedicated to refining and extending the core principles that shaped his early work—transformation, material honesty, and emotional directness. While the medium has changed, the energy remains consistent: raw, deliberate, and attentive to the relationship between gesture and form.
Drawing from his background in fashion, Lantzy brings a heightened sensitivity to composition, rhythm, and surface into his paintings and works on paper. Texture, movement, and color operate as carriers of feeling rather than representation, often engaging themes of identity, desire, cultural symbolism, and personal memory. His work exists in dialogue with contemporary image culture while maintaining a distinctly tactile presence.
Through this evolving practice, Lantzy continues to blur boundaries between art and design, past and present, object and image. His work reflects an ongoing commitment to reinvention—one that honors its origins while pushing toward new visual and conceptual terrain.
