Considered to be the strongest bone in the human body; the femur, once carrying the responsibility of support, now lies here. The glass like incasement attempts to retain what has already decayed, damaging it more. This damage is represented through the crack running thro the bone. The resin also serves to preserve the femur from the effects of time, highlighting the desire to make something last beyond limitations set by the human body. Carved into the bone; personal symbolism through “tattoos” invite the observer to consider their own identity. The art work itself provides a meditation on death and the ritualistic manners in which we attempt to transcend our own mortality.
