Intended to challenge the spectator’s perception on
the relationship between comfort and purpose, this
sculpture was design to be imposing at first glance in
contrast with the soft black furs that drape resting on
a rigid seat. These furs representing hedonistic tendencies,
clash with the brutalist design of the chair which
emphasizes purpose over pleasure. The top portion
of the chair mimics horse blinds narrowing the individuals
focus when sitting which can become tight and
uncomfortable over time. This experience emphasizes
the artwork’s theme of sacrifice.
