Los Angeles, CA - ALLGORITHIM is pleased to present Good Art From A Bad Artist, a solo exhibition of new paintings and works by Los Angeles-based artist Conner Meager. On view January 29 through February 12, 2022, the show brings together spot-portraits of friends and celebrities, collage works with a religious undertone, and a deeper dive into pure abstraction - a collection that translates Meager's subjects into abstracted depictions of various natures.
Meager's path to the canvas began in graphic design. At 13, he immersed himself in digital work, drawing on pop culture's iconic rock 'n' roll posters and the artists of the era, and went on to design album art and posters for local shows and brands in his hometown in Michigan. After relocating to Los Angeles at the start of 2021, he made the decision to take up the paintbrush. Works from the exhibition, including The Mother of Our Sorrows and Portrait Of A Woman (both 2022), reflect that transition, carrying the flattened, graphic instincts of his design background into a looser, more painterly language.
Throughout his time on the West Coast, Meager has continued to discover himself as an artist - a newfound awakening that has brought him new perceptions of his work and his surroundings, and which Good Art From A Bad Artist puts directly on view.
