Hunt the Self: Thomas Stokes

Overview

After nearly a year of collaboration, we are proud to present "Hunt the Self", an online solo exhibition featuring the evocative works of Thomas Stokes III. Launching this Friday, and running for a month, the exhibition showcases both the artist's most recent creations and select pieces from his past, offering a comprehensive look at his transformation and evolving formalities over time.

Thomas Stokes III, born in 1997 and based in San Antonio, embarked on his artistic journey at a young age with drawing and later transitioned into painting after high school. As a self-taught artist, Stokes has developed a unique style that blends surrealism with biomorphic elements, manipulating the human form through organic lines and distorted silhouettes. His works serve as mirrors to his own introspections, reflecting his perceptions of the world around him.

In "Hunt the Self", Stokes explores themes of identity and self-discovery, reimagining the human face through a surreal lens that challenges conventional portraiture. Using muted earthy tones and vibrant colors, his compositions create a delicate balance between chaos and harmony. The exhibition not only highlights Stokes' latest works but also revisits key pieces from his earlier periods, tracing his artistic evolution and the shifts in his approach to form, texture, and color.
