In Time, In Place, In Season: Charlie Haydn Taylor
"Spaces people inhabit without quite belonging to."
ALLGORITHIM is pleased to present In Time, In Place, In Season, an online exhibition of new paintings by Charlie Haydn Taylor, available exclusively through Artsy beginning May 1, 2025.
The exhibition brings together five paintings in which Haydn Taylor continues his investigation of the modern interior as a site of psychological weight. Rooms lit by the cold logic of artificial light. Furniture arranged with a precision that reads less like comfort than theater. Beyond the glass, the city — indifferent, unceasing. These are spaces people inhabit without quite belonging to, and Haydn Taylor renders them with the graphic clarity of someone who has studied that distance from the inside.
Born in 1996 on the island of Jersey and based in London since 2014, the artist works at the intersection of painting and digital collage, laying flat block color against photographic realism to produce images that feel simultaneously familiar and slightly wrong. Consumer objects appear throughout — placed, branded, present — not as decoration but as argument. They mark the cost of a certain kind of modern life: the accumulation that was supposed to fill something and didn't.
In Time, In Place, In Season takes its title from the conditions that govern both place and feeling — the ways in which where we are, and when, shape who we become. For Haydn Taylor, the move from a small, bounded community to one of the world's largest cities was not just geographic. It was a reckoning with anonymity, with the particular loneliness that scale produces. The works in this exhibition sit inside that reckoning — patient, precise, and quietly unsettling.
Haydn Taylor holds a BA in Design from Goldsmiths, University of London. His work has been exhibited in London, Beijing, Seoul, Singapore, and Dubai, and is held in private collections internationally. In Time, In Place, In Season marks his first online exhibition with ALLGORITHIM.
