ALLGORITHIM Presents Gethsemane, a Solo Exhibition by Preston Douglas Boyer
On view at Galerie on Sunset's Newsstand, with an expanded online presentation via ALLGORITHIM on Artsy
Los Angeles, California - ALLGORITHIM is pleased to present Gethsemane, a hybrid solo exhibition of paintings by Preston Douglas Boyer, on view at Galerie on Sunset's Newsstand and concurrently online through ALLGORITHIM's Artsy platform.
The physical exhibition centers on three works from Boyer's ongoing Testimony series, presented together as a loose triptych. Though each painting stands as an independent work, their grouping forms a shared space of reflection, tension, and transformation. The structure of three carries particular weight within the narrative of Gethsemane - a moment suspended between doubt and devotion, surrender and resistance, the human and the transcendent.
Rather than illustrating this narrative directly, Boyer approaches Gethsemane as an emotional and spiritual landscape - a terrain where internal struggle becomes visible, and where uncertainty gives way to clarity. Rooted openly in the artist's own faith and spiritual practice, the paintings remain spacious enough to hold more universal experiences of vulnerability, sacrifice, love, and truth.
The online presentation extends the exhibition across five years of Boyer's practice, tracing back to the early zipper paintings he began while living in New York. These works are shown in dialogue with his recent LOVE zipper paintings and the Testimony series, surfacing recurring concerns with concealment and revelation, rupture and repair, and the possibility of opening oneself to something beyond the visible.
Together, the physical and digital components present Gethsemane as a site of both reckoning and renewal.
Gethsemane is on view at Galerie on Sunset's Newsstand, 8226 W Sunset Blvd, West Hollywood, CA 90046, with an opening reception June 25th from 6 to 9 PM PST.
