Alex Breaux (b. 1998, New Orleans, LA) is an artist based in Miami, FL. Raised in Miami after her family relocated from New Orleans in the aftermath of Hurricane Katrina in 2005, Alex developed a deep connection to themes of memory and identity. She earned a Bachelor's degree in Art from Florida International University in 2020 and is currently pursuing an MFA in painting at the same institution.
Alex's work explores the intersection of realism and abstraction, offering an alluring perspective through vibrant color palettes, fluid oil paint, and immersive compositions. Her distinctive use of neon backgrounds and negative space invites viewers to reimagine overlooked details of the world, creating a dynamic tension between the abstract and the representational. Drawing inspiration from ontological themes such as landscape and nature, Alex's work examines their fluid representation in time and space.
By utilizing the expressive capabilities of oil paint and integrating digital tools like Photoshop into her process, Alex creates a visual archive of memories that transcend her individual experience. Her art becomes a universal meditation on place and belonging, blending personal narratives with broader reflections on the human connection to environment and identity.
